The Tim Tebow Foundation recently celebrated the 10th anniversary of Night to Shine, a special needs prom. Since its inception in 2015, the event has grown exponentially, with more than 75000 participants worldwide and hundreds of host churches across 56 countries.
Treasure Coast Night to Shine, one of just 44 original host participants, celebrated its 10th anniversary in style. More than 330 special needs individuals ages 14 and up gathered on Feb. 9th at the Fenn Center in Fort Pierce for their coronation as kings and queens.
Thanks to dozens of sponsors and the hundreds of volunteers who stepped up, participants regaled in a magical experience they will always cherish.
After shoe shines, flower pinnings, make-up, hair-styling, and formal portraits, the royal guests headed to the red carpet and their introduction to the crowd, where affirmative cheers and the flashes of the paparazzi cameras warmly welcomed them.
Guests quickly grabbed seats at the decorative tables, and their 'buddies' served them a dinner consisting of various donated treats.
Then, the dance floor came alive!
Party songs galore had everyone on their feet, including St. Lucie Sheriff's employees who participated in the massive conga line that weaved its way throughout the Fenn Center.
After a cheerful video greeting from local celeb Malcolm Harris-Gowdie from the Super Bowl in Las Vegas and a loving video message from Tim & Demi-Leigh Tebow, each guest was admiringly crowned king or queen.
Additional activities included luxurious limo rides, karaoke, arts & crafts, and quiet time when needed.
As always, loved ones and caregivers were welcome to the Respite Room to relax and watch a live-stream video of the event.
Event co-chair James Taylor said, "Genesis Community Church was beyond excited to mark our 10th anniversary of celebrating the Treasure Coast's Kings & Queens. Night to Shine was just a small gathering at our church ten years ago. Now, it takes many volunteers and business partners to come together. We want to thank all of you for making Night to Shine spectacular. TC Night to Shine is completely free for our guests and is 100% staffed and funded by local volunteers and sponsors."
