Treasure Coast Hospice Celebrates 104th Birthday for PSL Resident
Treasure Coast Hospice (TCH) and the staff at Life Care Center in Port St. Lucie celebrated the 104th birthday of Agnes Everleth last week. Surrounded by family, friends and members of her care teams at TCH and Life Care, Everleth beamed with joy as she looked around the beautifully decorated dining room, expressing her gratitude to all those in attendance.
“I appreciate everyone, thank you,” said Everleth.
Her son, David Everlett, thanked everyone for his mother’s care and support and for helping the family celebrate his mother’s special day. Port St. Lucie City Councilman David Pickett congratulated Everleth and presented her with a special certificate recognizing the milestone birthday on behalf of the City and its residents.
Following an inspirational reading from Treasure Coast Hospice Spiritual Care Coordinator Lorraine Stephens-Leslie, guests sang “Happy Birthday” and then joined the guest of honor for lunch and cake.
“We’re honored to work with our community partner, Life Care, to create such a special memory for our patient and her family,” said Treasure Coast Hospice Case Manager Juliette Saintelien, RN, BSN. “It’s truly a privilege to care for Ms. Everleth, who has shared such wonderful stories of her life with us.”
After raising six children, Everleth and her husband Claude moved to Port St. Lucie in 1983 from Balston Spa, New York. Married for 68 years before the passing of her husband, Everleth has welcomed 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren to the family.
Before retiring to Florida, Everleth worked at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs as a switchboard operator. As a retiree, she always led an active lifestyle, playing golf, exercising, and biking three miles a day until the age of 80. She had also been an avid reader and played cards regularly. Today, Everleth still enjoys playing cards with family and friends and has added coloring to her daily activities. Among her favorite projects, coloring decorative wooden plaques that she proudly displays in her room and gifts to her family.
Everleth attributes her longevity to her deep faith and positive attitude about life.
“God takes care of me each and every day,” said Everleth. “Find something to do,” she continued and remember “if you don’t smile, you are in trouble.”
