Treasure Coast Child Summit Day 2 rescheduled for October 31st due to Hurricane Helene
Guardians for New Futures Children's Advocacy Center successfully launched Day 1 of the annual Child Summit at Indian River State College with a full house. Despite the disruption caused by Hurricane Helene, which necessitated the rescheduling of Day 2, to October 31st, the event was a resounding success.
Highlights included an advocacy workshop led by Representative Dana Trabulsy, followed by State Attorney Tom Bakkedahl’s in-depth presentation on the prosecution process in child abuse cases. A local detective provided essential education on online solicitation and measures to protect children in the digital age.
Attendees also gained valuable insights into mental health and substance abuse issues affecting teens, including the growing trend of drug use to increase dopamine levels. The session generated outstanding feedback and emphasized the importance of addressing teen addiction and mental health challenges.
In addition to the educational sessions, attendees received critical resources, including disclosure kits, free backpacks, and safe sleep materials distributed to healthcare and community providers. The event also featured a free lunch hosted by Guardians for New Futures, fostering networking opportunities among attendees.
A special highlight of the day was the presentation of a $1,200 donation from the local Corvette Club to support services for children at the Guardians for New Future Children's Advocacy Center. The generous check was presented during the summit, furthering the center’s mission to protect and support vulnerable children in our community.
Sponsorship opportunities are still available at several levels. For more information or to become a sponsor, please contact Debbie Butler at [email protected].
