GraceWay Village to begin construction of first and only family shelter in St. Lucie County

GraceWay Village (GWV) is overjoyed to announce that construction of Phase One of its Family Shelter will be underway soon. The shelter will be the first and only shelter for families experiencing homelessness in St. Lucie County.
GWV fulfills its mission of serving our neighbors in need by providing free, hot meals in its Cafe four nights a week and appropriate clothing, underwear, socks, and shoes to children in its Clothing Boutique two days a week, in addition to its free weekly educational workshops.
The Family Shelter will provide temporary, safe housing for families with children facing unexpected, serious crises in their lives, with the goal being for them to become self-sufficient, healthy family units. After their first 90 days in the shelter, each family will pay $200 per month, in addition to saving 10% of their income for their future.
“Completing the Family Shelter is not just about a new building. Families threatened with homelessness will find a path to self sufficiency,” said Chrystal Netherton, GWV chief executive officer. “With the gracious, continuous support of William and Estelle Turney, State Representative Dana Trabulsy, the St. Lucie County Board of County Commissioners, and our GWV family, this legacy project is an investment in a future where families have the chance to thrive.”
Trabulsy recently presented Netherton and GWV board members with a $1 million appropriation check on Monday, July 21 at GWV headquarters in Fort Pierce. Representative Trabulsy was instrumental in securing GWV’s appropriations request in the state’s budget, helping GWV reach its Phase One goal.
“If you ask me why I love Graceway Village, the answer is simple: because they show up for our community in the ways that matter most,” Trabulsy said. “If you’ve never visited or supported GraceWay, I encourage you to learn more about the incredible work they do. Our community is stronger because of them.”
Construction of GWV’s Family Shelter will be underway in the coming months.
